Participants at a community arts centre I am a member of recently had a visiting tutor give an introduction to encaustic works, and while we learned much, there are gaps in our knowledge. As we are in a rural location, it is hard to get tutors to visit, and we do rely on online information a great deal. I had contacted several professional artists before I found your site, and none were willing to share information as readily as you have done. Thank you once again for sharing your knowledge and experience - it makes a world of difference to myself and my colleagues when we can get technical information that enables us to experiment further and enjoy the wax medium in new ways.Laurelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14251611016399151825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3741208825294943882.post-91180725001428935882011-06-15T08:00:56.778-04:002011-06-15T08:00:56.778-04:00Beautiful work, Alexandre! It is worth a fortune; you basically have to find a place that can laser cut metal. It is not a venue for us to venture unless we have a paint factory…

- My ventilation system changed a lot over the last 10 years. For the longest time I had a basic fan in a window, just next to my ovens. What you see in the photos on my blog is a wooden hood I built myself. There are two daylight bulbs in the hood to make sure I see my colors correctly. You can connect this homemade device either to a fan in a window or as I made in my new studio, to an industrial fan that sits on the roof. I basically paint all the time, so for me it was worth the investment. It is funny to see how my setup evolved over the years; I will probably do a full post with photos on that later on.

- I bought a 4 feet x 8 feet aluminum sheet in a metal shop where I had it cut down to the sizes I needed. Then I brought all the metal sheets in an anodizing shop. If you order aluminum, you should ask that the metal be protected by a thin PVC coating in order to minimize the scratches during transportation. Finding the proper metal shops in your area requires some research but usually one shop can lead you to the next.alexandre masinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16226924854760980117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3741208825294943882.post-42296531323936223802010-09-17T17:09:45.845-04:002010-09-17T17:09:45.845-04:00Hi Jason - I agree with you, the 12$ Million Shark...Hi Jason - I agree with you, the 12$ Million Shark talks almost exclusively about the very top of the pyramid. The interesting thing to notice is that the book describes the situation before the 2009 shut down. For example, when he talks about the top galleries "placing" the works of hot artists and not merely selling them. I have heard from different sources that it is not quite true anymore. Since the recession, galleries are now working to sell the works, and are not as selective about who buys them.alexandre masinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16226924854760980117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3741208825294943882.post-9265116783975640602010-09-16T22:23:37.922-04:002010-09-16T22:23:37.922-04:00I'm so grateful for your post, and love your w...I'm so grateful for your post, and love your work...thank you! I appreciated so much your devotion to your career and resolve to continue and expand your art making no matter what. Thanks also for the quote from Mira Schor. I just discovered her new blog and thought she was a very insightful writer and quite eloquent. The sentence you quoted about the relationship between the artist and artwork being one of intimacy with the self is such an accurate description of the whole process. I loved it.

It was so nice to get to know you a little bit at the conference and to discover how full of fun and wit you are in person.
Best,
Nancy And P.S. to Yechel - Your photos are really great!Nancy Natalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03325421420384484035noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3741208825294943882.post-89578374659972895442010-07-03T10:30:47.792-04:002010-07-03T10:30:47.792-04:00Yes, I definitely second what Suzanne said!
